Red Island Minerals Ltd (RIM) is a Perth-based coal development company founded by Sam Malin (who is also project originator), along with others, to develop the Sakoa, Sakamena and adjacent coal fields in southwestern Madagascar. RIM is controlled by PTT Asia Pacific Mining, a 100% subsidiary of PTT PCL (ปตท.), a state-owned Thai company. The coal development project is operated by RIM's 100% subsidiary, Madagascar Consolidated Mining SARL, in which the Malagasy government agency, OMNIS, holds a minority stake. RIM is an Australian public company, limited by shares, first registered with the Australian Securities and Investments Commission (ASIC) under the name Petrosearch International Ltd on 2 March 2005.
